There was a crazy ice storm that rolled through Kingston that effectively turned my back yard into an ice rink.

Needless to say, the car was frozen in as well. a good 4cm layer of prevented me from opening the car door for the first 30 minutes… after hacking away at the car’s ice shield. I was drenched by the rain. Luckily, by this point, it was warm rain.

The ice was so thick and heavy that is obliterated a growing tree in my backyard.

I booked a cheap ticket to come back to Taiwan, where Jason had to drive me to Syracuse Airport for a 6AM flight to Chicago, then I take a second flight to San Fran, and a third flight to Nagoya (Japan), and finally a fourth one to Taiwan.  Initially I thought it’s going to be a really tiring and long day, but it turned out to be much better than i expected!  Well…  my expectations might’ve been too low =).  First of all, I checked in online the day before and apparently I was on a “seat management list” for my first flight, which means there was no seat for me (at least that’s what I thought).  I got to the airport nervously because I wouldn’t want to miss my flight so that I won’t be able to catch the following flights!  Luckily, there was no problems with seats, i wonder if UA is doing that just so I go to check in earlier =).  I got to Chicago fine, then I was told that my flight to San Fran had been canceled.  I became a bit more nervous, but still somewhat optimistic.  What can they do, they have to fly me home!  Anyway, I got rerouted so that I don’t have to go to San Fran anymore, I’ll be flying directly from Chicago to Tokyo, then to Taiwan.  I should always get my flights canceled!  That’s a bit of an upgrade right away.  The only concern i had was my luggage, because i had a feeling that it wasn’t going to get rerouted.  So I asked, and i was reassured that my luggage will get to Taiwan fine.  But of course, when I finally got off the plane in Taiwan, my name was called and I was directed to the lost and found luggage counter =).  I suppose the agent didn’t lie, she said it’ll get there fine, didn’t say it’ll get there on time.  So I don’t have any clothes to change to, and nothing to charge my laptop, and of course all the gifts for my family are in that luggage!  I guess i’m in a good mood cuz i’m on vacation, i’m still optimistic that it’ll be delivered to my house tomorrow.  In the mean time, I’ll share some pictures I took during the flight and my sister’s dog - Pocky.

I am a Vancouver Canucks fan. They just had a horrible game this afternoon, thanks to a terrible forward who piggy-back rode on a Dallas player and then ran the goalie with about two minutes to go in the third period in a one-goal game. So they tied the game, went to OT, and Dallas won the game. I think the Canucks forum crashed right after Bulis took that stupidest penalty…… and i’m sure there’re lots of other people just as upset as I am (Deb! I know we were cursing him at the same time). Well, I guess bad games like that happens….

This year is the first year that we’ve been able to watch hockey games on our own TV! Thanks to Sportsnet blacking out non-regional games, we couldn’t watch Canucks games before (well…. we didn’t have Sportsnet but even if we did…). The bars in Kingston aren’t really Canucks game friendly either, due to priority and time zone difference. Long story short, I’m really excited that we get to watch the games this year and I believe I watched 60 of the 62 games they’ve played so far (Jason on the other hand slept through 59 of the 60 games he attempted to watch……). And it’s great to be able to watch your home team away from home! However, I’ll be going to another home (Taiwan) soon and I will miss all the games in March! Well, at least I’ll be back in time for the playoff actions.

GO! Canucks GO!

In most cities, home ownership usually means being situated close by other houses that comprise a neighborhood. In Kingston, although we live in a sub-division, we can enjoy a great sunset each and every night. There is literally nothing in behind our house (except the highway and some nature reservation). When I get home, I can just kick back and enjoy the view.DSC_0676.JPG

Its still snowing in the meantime. if anything, Harder than it was before with a crazy swirling wind. The Dogs are having a great time in it now as well. That’s right, dogs! We are dog-sitting for Flora’s coworker. Let me tell you that the work isn’t proportional to the the number of dogs. its more of an exponential increase… I’m tired :P

Here’s some pictures from earlier in the day. Any more snow, and Laifu will completely disappear into the snow!
